Audi RS Q3
In SUV and sportback guise, the 2021 Audi Q3 is a sign of something special. It is a podium-placer when it comes to sales for the brand down under, with Australians flocking to this versatile and highly practical unit as a trusty and dedicated family car. The interior of the Q3 is fitted out delightfully, boasting ample space, modern touches, and plenty of equipment. On top of that, it’s also rather flexible in terms of configuration, something that has become increasingly important to households across the country. So whether you need those rear seats for the children, or extra boot space for that weekend getaway, you are not compromising any sense of luxury here. In fact, quite the contrary. The 35 TFSI produces a modest 110kW and 250Nm, however, the AWD 40 TFSI is more willing, offering output of up to 132kW and 320Nm. Sportback styling looks outstanding, although with some compromise for rear headspace. But if that’s an issue, the SUV guise is comparable in every other way. For an extra edge, the RS Q3 goes full throttle, decked in sports styling, premium cabin materials, adaptive sports suspension and variable-ratio steering, plus a thunderous 2.5-litre 300kW V5 turbo. How does a compact SUV get better than this? That’s right, you’re seeing the pinnacle of excellence right here.

With a potent five-cylinder engine and quattro AWD underpinnings, the all-new 2020 Audi RS Q3 provides a real point of difference to the hi-po four-cylinder brigade. It’s a big step forward from the old RS Q3, too, which always seemed to be an afterthought rather than a pre-planning exercise. In short, it’s grown up. The new RS Q3 is bigger, faster, better a...

The 2021 Audi RS Q3 also now comes as a Sportback and looks set to take over the position of the TT RS which will be retired within the next 18 months. There are plenty of logical reasons why that will happen. For starters, no matter whether it’s the regular wagon or Sportback, its SUV body offers more space than the 2+2 coupe with the ability to seat five a...

Think of Audi’s range of high-performance RS models as being like a knives in a kitchen knife block. They’re all sharp but they all do some things better than others. You wouldn’t use a bread knife to cut a tomato, would you? Well, I have before, because it was on the only clean knife and well, anyway it all went wrong, and it was a mess. So, what kind of kn...

No, that’s not a misprint in the headline. This is indeed a comparison pitting the 2020 Audi RS Q3 compact SUV against the Mercedes-AMG A45 S hatchback rather than the more obvious GLA45 S. Benz’s hot-rod baby SUV isn’t here until early 2021 – yet bear with us, because this is a more organic comparison than you might initially believe. For one thing, the hum...

Take this as your official warning: if you see a Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S or Audi RS Q3 lurking around the bottom of a twisting mountain road, do not try and outrun them unless you are packing a serious piece of equipment. No, your Porsche 997 911 Turbo, or HSV Clubsport GTS may not suffice. You will be harassed and taunted by these little SUVs until your brake...
