Offering an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz EQC and Jaguar I-PACE, the Audi e-tron arrived down under in late 2020 to much acclaim. In fact, this stylish electric SUV won the 2021 Drive Car of the Year for Best Electric Vehicle. This is a car that lives up to that honour, and whether you opt for the 50 Quattro or 55 Quattro, both variants delight all the senses. The major differentiator between the two is performance, with the e-tron 55 well ahead of its entry-level sibling on that front thanks to 300kW, but otherwise, sharing a number of other features and inclusions. The duo are both AWD, and feature an electric motor for each axle. It is a whisper-quiet car, something that seems almost unimaginable until you take your comfy seat inside the car. Even then, when you are taken aback by the sprightly acceleration on offer, it still almost feels too good to be true. Complete with fast-charging capabilities, solid driving range, unique features like ‘virtual exterior mirrors’, and a planted feeling of composure on the road, the 2021 Audi e-tron is such a comprehensive proposition that it’s hard to knock.
