It's a definite step above the Mitsubishi ASX, so the premium is definitely justified for all the versatility and extra class that the Eclipse Cross brings to the table.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with a little extra cabin space and exterior sizing compared with the ASX, although it's not quite as big as the Outlander. With a slightly longer body and a taller stance, the Eclipse Cross has a bit more of a spacious feel to it, even if it is ever-so-fractionally narrower than the ASX. One particular mention, however, is that boot space in the ASX is actually larger than that of the Eclipse Cross, which arises from the design of the cabin, as well as the flexible seating arrangements in the ASX.

After a facelift in 2021, there are fewer changes to the 2022 version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, with the biggest change being the roll-out of a plug-in hybrid electric version. This is a potential differentiator in the small SUV market, and building on the new tech recently introduced, it just feels the natural step. The Eclipse Cross has come a long way since debuting in 2018 - it’s now slightly bigger, but also boasts a slicker design. Standard inclusions at the bottom of the range include 18-inch alloys, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED daytime lights, reversing camera, climate control, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sadly, adjustable rear seats are no more, which means a slight compromise in terms of versatility, but the cargo hold still offers ample space. A CVT gearbox is mated to a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder motor, and surprisingly, with 110kW and 250Nm it fares very well against its peers. Things ramp up a notch if you opt for the PHEV, which combines a 2.4-litre petrol engine with two electric motors that have an output between 60kW and 70kW each, and an electric driving range of slightly over 50km. Complemented by Mitsubishi’s outstanding aftercare package, the 2022 Eclipse Cross is a fine addition to the garage.
