Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Slotting in between the Mitsubishi ASX and the Outlander, the Eclipse Cross is the answer for those in need of a sharp, stylish SUV that comes with the latest gear and imposing on-road performance. Autonomous emergency braking is included in each variant, unlike the ASX, although joined by all the other modern-day accessories to make your driving easier. There is 100kW of power and 250Nm of torque available through the excitable 1.5L turbo petrol engine, and like Mitsubishi’s efforts elsewhere, the CVT outperforms transmission units found in many rival vehicles. Only the Exceed version comes in AWD, which offers greater grip, balance and roadholding characteristics, particularly in corners. With the list of safety inclusions running deeper and deeper the higher you progress through the series, Mitsubishi’s meticulous efforts are on show and accompany outstanding build quality. You’ll find greater storage and towing capacity here than the ASX, including versatile rear seating that is comfortable nonetheless. Sounds like a bargain right? Your only challenge is to get in before all the other new car buyers and realise first-hand.

The 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has grown up – and out. Classified as a small SUV, it’s packed on the pounds after the holiday season, so to speak, and now arguably straddles both the small and medium SUV segments. In doing so, it’s possibly expanded its pool of buyers – but its pool of competitors, too. Having gained 140mm in length, the facelifted Eclips...

Late last year, a comprehensive update for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was announced, marking its second upgrade since the small SUV launched in Australia in early 2018. Delivery delays have forced some buyers who placed an order for the new MY21 model to cool their heels, though we suspect this is only part of the reason behind the 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse...

Long before it was cool to take the name of a sports car that was never officially released here and slap it on the rump of a compact SUV (Ford Puma, if you're wondering), Mitsubishi had already been there and done that with a car of its own, the Eclipse Cross.  One imagines it was so named because Eclipse owners would be terribly cross about what the bods i...

Mitsubishi has a stranglehold on the small SUV segment in Australia, enjoying almost 20 per cent market share in the hotly-contested class. The heavy-lifting is done by the venerable and top-selling Mitsubishi ASX. But, the funkier and altogether less conventional looking Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross hasn’t exactly been dragging its wheels, contributing almost f...

Growing up, the Mitsubishi Eclipse was one of those cool Japanese sports cars that featured on posters or in video games. Fast forward to now and the reboot takes the form of a boldly-styled crossover built on the same bones as the ASX and Outlander. Hardly gets your pulse racing. The 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a mildly facelifted iteration of the orig...

Ageing gracefully isn’t an easy task and it’s rarely successfully pulled off. In the SUV realm, the first-generation Volvo XC90’s 12-year run seems to be the best innings of them all. Narrow down the form factor and do some light digging and it won’t take long to discover that the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Honda HR-V aren’t exactly spring chickens. In fac...
