Mitsubishi's once-popular Lancer bowed out of the Australian new car market in 2018, with the company retiring the model amid waning demand for sedans and hatches. The Lancer has not completely disappeared altogether, however, with rumours beginning to surface in recent times that the Lancer Evo XI could be in the works. Whether that makes it down under remains to be seen, but expect to hear more soon.
Although it may have faded into automotive history, at least for the time being, the Lancer Evolution was always highly regarded when it came to build quality and reliability. In fact, reliability concerns were certainly less prominent than some of the Evo's peers that have survived the changing preferences of new car buyers.
You might not be able to find the Lancer on sale in showrooms across the country these days, but the second-hand market certainly offers no shortage of options. If that's where you decide to look, you should know that the Mitsubishi Lancer has a total life expectancy of 250,000 to 300,000 kilometres, although you will want to inspect the service book closely to ensure that is has been maintained regularly and kept in good order.
