In 2021, Renault announced that its local operations would be handled by independent auto distributor Ateco from the 1st of April. This move has since gone ahead, so while the brand is still technically available across Australia, Renault has a more hands-off role now, with Ateco responsible for the day-to-day management of the brand down under, as it currently does with the likes of LDV, RAM and Maserati. Once upon a time Renault was assembling cars in Melbourne, Australia, so it has very strong ties to the country.
With no shortage of options to choose from in the used car market, the Renault Megane is one name that typically goes under the radar. After all, it hasn't exactly shifted high volumes as a new car, so there aren't many running around in the second-hand corner of the market. Nonetheless, if you can find one, the Megane is a smart and savvy choice, since this high-quality unit is built to very high standards and boasts a great balance between amenity, comfort, performance and value.
Renault offers a five-year capped price servicing program in Australia for cars purchased after July 1, 2020, and a three-year capped price servicing plan for all vehicles purchased before July 1, 2020. Under the program, the Renault Megane R.S hatch may be services for $529 on each occasion at 12-month/20,000km intervals. This interval duration is slightly longer than what you may be used to seeing, so take that into consideration as a bonus when weighing up whether the servicing costs are expensive for your budget. You will also need to factor in prices for additional service items not included in the capped price schedule, such as brake fluid and coolant, replacing the accessory belt kit and spark plugs, as well as a gearbox oil and filter change for auto models.

Renault Australia has simplified its passenger offering by a great deal. The only other non-SUV alternative to the all-electric Zoe is the as-feisty-as-ever Renault Megane Sport offered in six varying guises. That means no more regular Megane, Megane GT or wagon variants. It may be the case for quite some time, too, as there’s no word yet on the Clio 5’s arr...
View ReviewMake no mistake, the Renault Megane RS 300 Trophy is a rare beastie. Only 100 of these French athletes will be sold in Australia. Pumping out 220kW/420Nm from its aggressively tuned 1.8-litre four-banger (400Nm if you choose the cheaper manual version), you can get into Renault Megane RS 300 Trophy for $52,990, which is $7000 more than the entry-level Megane...
View ReviewThe Renault Megane RS is still here, in case you were wondering. You may have let it slip your mind in recent times, because there’s been a lot of action in the hot hatch scene with the release of the new-generation Ford Focus ST, a fond farewell to the VW Golf R, and consistent talk of the upcoming Toyota Corolla GR hot hatch. The Megane RS is more than ju...
View ReviewI’m pleased and relieved to report that the 2018 Renault Megane RS Auto EDC is still a bloody good thing. Why? Because the last time I drove one, I was riddled with jet lag punting a left-hook Euro-spec version hard along sun-kissed Spanish Costa del Sol back roads. Except, being January and winter, the narrow twisties near Ronda were peppered with snow, and...
View ReviewTHERE ARE some pure driver’s cars that manufacturers just always get right. I’m particularly thinking GT Porsches, mid-engined Ferrari specials and extreme Renault Meganes. This is the latest of the Renaults, which is these days called the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R. And I’m happy to report the same standard applies. Sigh. Time for another rejig of the ‘top...
