In a segment that features a number of upmarket European names targeting performance and comfort, and many models out of Asia prioritising value and efficiency, the Peugeot 308 strikes a rich balance of both worlds and is a name that deserves to be on any new car buyer's shortlist if they are interested in a hatchback. The 308 is a snappy little unit with great looks, superb comfort levels, extensive features and gear, decent space, and a lively level of performance on the road. It's also fairly priced, so that makes it a solid choice.
There have been a number of recalls in Australia on the Peugeot 308 in recent years, so you should always confirm directly with your local authorities or the manufacturer to see if you have a model that falls under one of the recalls. Some of the recent issues include problems with suspension bolts, door locks, faults with the fuel pipe, and braking system issues that had the potential to cause the wheels to tilt and reduce steering control. Remember, most makes and models of car are subject to recalls at some point, and they are often proactive and preventative measures to remedy potential issues before they arise.
With an all-new Peugeot 308 in Australia, it's time to briefly reflect on the fact that this snazzy little hatch was unveiled as a successor to the company's popular 306 and 307 hatchbacks when released back in 2007. Since then, Peugeot has released a number of iterations of the 308, and in comparison with the 307 it boasts a slightly wider and longer body - ensuring more space inside - as well as an interior design and fit-out that many would consider to be more stylish, comfortable and sophisticated.

Vive le différence. French car giant Peugeot continues to be a small player on Australia’s rich new-car-market stage, and certainly in terms of sales volume. It’s a little confounding, certainly when looking at the 2020 Peugeot 308 hatchback – a sleek and stylish take on the formula. But, it also plays in a crowded small-car segment where choices abound, bot...
View ReviewEarlier this year, Peugeot Australia cut its 308 hatchback line-up down to two variants, deleting the sporty GT due to slow sales and simply offering an entry-grade Allure from $30,499 (plus on-road costs) and a new top-spec GT Line, which we’re testing here. On sale since April 2020, the 308 GT Line is priced from $34,990 plus ORCs and shares the same small...
View ReviewIt was almost this time last year when I had the chance to test the Peugeot 308 GT. It was a great little warm hatch, which subjectively, I loved. Imagine my dismay then, when I discovered this year Peugeot had discontinued the often overlooked GT to replace it with the car you see here: The 308 GT-Line. The GT-Line looks pretty much identical from the outsi...
View ReviewIn Australia, the small passenger car segment has long been amongst the most competitive, despite a recent slide in volume as customers continue to migrate to SUVs. More than 20 different models compete in this market dominated by the top-selling Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3, and Hyundai i30. One of the smaller players – at least in terms of volume – in this clas...
View ReviewIt’s been a bit of a rough patch for French car fans and sympathisers of warm versions of the Peugeot 308. The feisty 200kW GTi hot hatch is no longer making the boat trip across the big pond and the rather likeable 165kW GT is a victim of Europe’s tightening emissions regulations. That leaves a relative newcomer to Aussie roads and showrooms in the form...

Now that she's free of brand loyalties, we’ve let her loose to say what she really thinks about the latest models - uncensored, without fear or prejudice. You'll find her testing cars near her home in regional Victoria, using her three yo...
