The 2019 Mazda BT-50 has been given a bolder frontal appearance, equipment upgrade and more attractive pricing. The Japanese manufacturer says its “New Look Mazda BT-50”, which brings a tougher front-end and boxier jawline was designed to “widen and strengthen the ute’s road stance”. Off the record, it was to reduce the softer lines of the old ‘smiling’ front which didn’t strike a chord with buyers wanting blokey, tough-looking utes. While subtle, it’s noticeable, but there are even more meaningful changes inside with the added infotainment connectivity of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto set to help sway connected tradies. Now in its seventh year since introduction, the second-generation ute holds its own against the competition and lined up against a fully loaded Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux it’s a lot more ute for the money. A big, capable, versatile work and family car that can comfortably tackle any four-wheel-drive adventure you’d sensibly dream up, from a value for money perspective, the Mazda can’t be beaten.
