It’s finally here, Mazda’s first electric vehicle. While the anticipation might be too much for some, the introduction of the Mazda MX-30 Electric is a welcome step for the Japanese auto-maker, and a sign of bigger things brewing. It joins the mild hybrid petrol-powered variant as part of a concerted effort to go green. There is a great deal of gear included in the MX-30, including but not limited to 18-inch alloys, electric sunroof, 360-degree view, 8.8-inch infotainment display, sat-nav, stop-go functionality, adaptive cruise control, as well as a safety suite that is the envy of many other cars. Of course, the MX-30 boasts a five-star ANCAP safety rating. The versatility of electric operation is the real pitch here, and for drivers eyeing a switch, it may make a lot of sense to scope out this small-crossover. However, do bear in mind that the driving range for the electric MX-30 falls somewhat short against its peers, coming in at around 224km thanks to a lithium-ion battery that has a capacity of 35.5kWh. But outside of pure-electric functionality, the electric and mild hybrid variants share many of the same features, in addition to the platform of the popular CX-30, so there is ample scope to choose with conviction.
