Although a sense of trepidation has surrounded the latest generation of Holden cars being produced offshore, there certainly hasn’t been any drop in anticipation. Now, after some time settling itself into the local market, the Holden Calais is starting to get drivers talking about the famous iconic brand once again. Even though the much-famed V8 engine is no more, in settling between a 4-cylinder 2L turbocharged motor, or a 3.6L V6, both impress with intensity and enterprise. Perhaps it has as much to do with the nine-speed automatic transmission, which glides harmoniously through each gear. Other than the front-wheel drive base sedan, each variant, including the Tourer wagons, are built as AWD vehicles. Standard inclusions extend to emergency brake assistance - an increasingly necessary safety perk - as well as pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane observation aids and forward collision alerts. What you may well appreciate most however, is the completely redesigned look of the Calais, which now appears polished, cultured and cutting edge. Inside it’s as gorgeous and plush as it is outside, with a rich supply of leather and entertainment at one’s fingertips. Even with a toned-down engine, the Holden Calais dispenses an assertive and compelling act, making it a prized addition within any Holden aficionado’s garage.
