Rebranded in 2021, the GWM dual-cab ute is a breath of fresh air compared with its previous iterations. Now it has a distinctively different look and feel to it, and it’s for the better. This ute is now a legitimate contender in the segment, boasting permanent all-wheel-drive, rear differential lock, advanced tech, which even extends to a category-leading 360 degree camera. The features list runs deep for the GWM Ute, more than you’re perhaps accustomed to seeing in this corner of the market, yet the Chinese auto-maker has done wonders in keeping a lid on prices. On the road, this unit now feels more balanced, and it also offers a nicer level of engagement for those that may have felt like the former versions of this model were lacking some grunt. The interior is a vastly improved proposition as well, with the cabin’s surrounds making for a serene environment, and the seating providing good levels of support. Practicality and versatility are both high, as you’d hope, but at this price-point, the real highlight is just how far the mechanical underpinnings have improved. Evolving leaps and bounds from its predecessors, this is a solid 4WD ute from the get-go.
