Absolutely, the latest Volkswagen Passat is a commendable choice for a mid-size car, even if it does have to contend with the growing phenomenon that is SUVs and utes. The real highlights of the Passat are the sublime level of comfort inside the cabin, including cushion-like ride comfort, a high level of practicality and amenity, as well as a sturdy motor that offers ample power. VW cars are always built well, and this is no exception. One of the better sedans still available on the market!
In the US, the VW Passat was phased out as it was forced to make way for the German auto-maker's SUV options. However, that decision was spurred by the fact that the diesel version of the Passat was one of the original vehicles caught up in the company's emissions device scandal, which prompted VW to run a negotiated trade-in program that all but wiped their presence off the roads. Closer to home in Australia the VW Passat continues to live on, with a new model having just landed.
If you have a big family, or you're used to playing the role of taxi driver and carrying a number of passengers, the Passat is probably more aligned with your needs. The same applies if you value extra boot space, with the Passat coming out ahead in terms of space and amenity, not to mention, greater comfort and power. On the other hand, if you are looking for a versatile unit that is still very capable, albeit smaller in stature, the VW Jetta is a fitting choice, and you'll not only save money on the purchase price, but the better fuel efficiency will save you costs to run it as well.
