Although a number of car manufacturers have moved away from V8 engines, Toyota has stuck by its dependable and powerful motor to drive the Landcruiser 70 Series. This 4.5-litre turbo-diesel engine has an output of 151kW and 430Nm, which is more than enough for any environment, and any challenge that you're prepared to throw at this iconic unit. The good news is that the V8 isn't being retired any time soon.
Ask the hardcore LandCruiser enthusiasts which series is their favourite model and they'll likely tell you the 80 series, sold new between 1990 and 1998, is a clear winner. The models from that era boasted a level of ruggedness and grit that made them true 4x4 warriors with every bit the adrenaline-fuelled experience you'll find in any car.
