A roomy hatchback fit for an active family, the Scala is a delightful option in a segment of the market that has been up against it in recent times. Nonetheless, if you are prepared to depart from the frenzy that is the SUV love-in, the Scala comes to the party with outstanding practicality, and loads of space for a car in this class. It also offers sharp European looks, plenty of features and technology, and is right up there in terms of excellent value thanks to a sharp price. Of course, it's built very well, owing to the engineering nous from the team at Skoda and parent company VW.
It might surprise you to know that in today's era of cars, there is in fact a lot of crossover between manufacturers and their various models, particularly when they are part of the same parent company. In the case of Skoda, which is a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, the Scala takes inspiration from a stretched version of the MQB A0 platform. This is the same platform that has been used in popular names like the Volkswagen Polo, as well as the SEAT Ibiza in Europe. Built on a B-segment platform, the car actually matches the brief for C-segment dimensions.
Like the rest of the Skoda range, the Scala comes directly from the Czech Republic, where the brand has held long-established manufacturing operations. In fact, Skoda vehicles were first built in the Czech Republic all the way back in 1895, which is far longer than many other auto-makers have been in existence. Today, Skoda exports its vehicles to more than 90 countries across the globe, and the Scala is one of its main creations.
