Mitsubishi Lancer
Formerly a favourite among every boy racer, the Mitsubishi Lancer has evolved into a lot more in recent times, particularly following the retirement of the Evolution series. Small cars are not often thought of as elegant or genteel invitations, however that’s a perception that doesn’t ring true with the Lancer. Beyond its flashy exterior, there’s a lot more room and equipment than you likely bargained for in the five-door hatchback and four-door sedans. In particular, the LS variant offers upgrades like larger tyres, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, leather trim, auto headlights and wipers, plus front-seat heating. That’s incredible value for only a couple thousand dollars more than the base model, and still well under $25k. The Lancer range all run as front-wheel drive vehicles, complete with brake assist and five-year, 100,000 kilometre warranty. Within the ES Sport and LS variants you’ll acquire an efficient 2L motor, and CVT six or eight-speed respectively, which contrasts to the more potent 2.4L engine and firmer suspension found in the GSR and GSR Sportback variants. If the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla feel a little light on character, the Mitsubishi Lancer does a stand-in job and deserves closer inspection.
