Yes, as part of sweeping changes, McLaren discontinued a broad range of its more 'affordable' vehicles including the 540C, 570S, 570GT, 600LT and 620R. All of these models have effectively been replaced by one new model, which is the Artura plug-in hybrid supercar. First released in 2015, this sports car series is an entry-level model range that was warmly received in the market, with global sales eclipsing 8,500 units in the span of around six years.
In distinguishing these two beautiful units, the first starting place should be the chassis set-up, and in turn, the ride dynamic. The 540C has said to have a less aggressive chassis set-up compared with the sports-oriented racetrack-ready 570S. The engineering team at McLaren clearly developed the 540C with a focus on everyday driving, developing a level of ride comfort that is engaging yet poised and sure-footed. Of course, with a focus on a more comfortable ride, the 540C has sacrificed some pursuit of all-out speed, but that may suit some.
Given the greater level of attention on ride comfort in the 540C, it doesn't quite go toe-to-toe with the 570S, but don't let that fool you into thinking this unit is any sort of slouch. Thanks to a mighty 533 brake horsepower, the 540C takes just 3.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h. It has a top speed of 320km/h. In contrast, the McLaren 570S takes a little over 3.1 seconds to achieve the same feat, while the 570GT clocks in at 3.4 seconds.
Alfa Romeo has been hard at work refining the Giulia. The engineers in Turin have updated the infotainment, interior trim, and driver assists to make its beautiful sports sedan a better rival for its German foes – and they’ve done a pretty good job of it. But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
