If there’s one thing that SUVs are often marked down heavily for, it is their lack of versatility and flexibility. Maybe that’s because there are so many options on the market today, but each manufacturer needs to appeal to a broad mass to take home the chocolates. So with the Lexus RX450hL the Japanese car maker has pitched beyond the standard SUV market, also aiming for the people moving and large family segments courtesy of its seven seats. The stretched version and regular five seat RX450h otherwise share a lot of similarities, namely their hearty 3.5L V6 engines and generous equipment list, albeit there are added variants falling under the RX450h banner. In case it wasn’t apparent, both series are centred exclusively on hybrid technology thanks to twin electric motors, and the inclusion of Lexus’ Safety Sense+ suite provides drivers and occupants with a swathe of valuable safety perks. The refined, leather-adorned cabin shared in both models rivals those of European peers, while the third row in the RX450hL has impressive levels of access, adjustment and overall amenity. But it’s not only inside where there is dignity, since on the road you’ll take solace in the zippy acceleration, plus composed and delicate ride comfort. This is what a Lexus is all about.
Sharpened for 2020, Lexus’ biggest petrol-electric hybrid SUV is significantly improved. Just don’t mention styling or the infotainment system…
The 450h is the biggest (and, we think, best) option in the RX family, combining a V6 engine with an electric motor to provide ample oomph without killing you at the bowser. It?ll cost you $90,160 in Luxury guise, and $102,460 if you step up the the F Sport. The Sport Luxury is the most expensive model in the RX family, and will cost you $108,610 for the 450...
The Lexus RX450hL has been given a refresh for 2020, with changes inside the cabin as well as under the skin.
