With British roots, the LDV brand is now under ownership of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. Having specialised in utes and vans, the new owners have sought to broaden the badge’s appeal by tackling the big boys in the SUV and people mover segments. As a result, we have the LDV D90, which is a soft road seven-seater that loans a ladder frame chassis from one of its other models, the T60. Featuring reversing camera, parking sensors and a 360 degree birds-eye camera, you’re never found out of place in the driver’s seat. This is particularly handy given the D90’s rather large size and lengthy wheelbase, which permits added stability and a spacious and courtly interior. Depending on your budget you’ll have access to RWD or 4WD, the latter including low range functionality and rear electronic locking differential. Best of all this SUV is priced significantly below its nearest Hyundai and Mazda rivals like the Santa Fe and CX-9, yet still offers a sturdy engine and smooth driving dynamics. Beyond that, every variant offers auto stop-start, multi-zonal climate control, AEB, adaptive cruise control, smartphone integration plus numerous sophisticated safety alerts. Marvellous value is the pitch here, and on that front, the LDV D90 is mightily persuasive.
