Ahead of anticipated cutbacks to the Jaguar XE line-up, it’s a timely reminder that this sedan still has a lot to offer motorists who prioritise personality and performance on the road. Although the 2019 models will be pared to just two - both the R-Dynamic variants - the run-out versions from last year will continue to drip through, with discounts likely to enhance their value proposition. Nevertheless, the highlight of the XE range has always been the uplifting experience behind the wheel, with superb handling, an accommodative suspension setup, brisk acceleration and confident roadholding qualities. Interior styling and controls make for a vitalising environment - especially in the R-Dynamic versions - with the infotainment system particularly functional and including a cutting-edge sat-nav. High quality materials and textures provide an opulent touch, with enough room in the rear seats for the kids. Numerous safety and amenity features can be added as an optional extra, although this year’s new models will integrate some of these as standard into the XE’s gloriously swooping body. In any case, the engine and transmission pairing have always been the showstopper here, so whether it be the new or run-out variants, Jaguar reigns supreme for polished driving.
