Hyundai IONIQ FAQs

PMC Says...

7.8 / 10
Looking to set the electric vehicle segment alight, Hyundai has released the IONIQ. Not only is it the company’s first fully electric car, but it is also far more aggressively priced than its direct competitors like the Renault Zoe. While of course that positions it above the price of most other cars of comparable size and amenity, it does go one step further than the hybrid version released at the start of 2018. Designated as a hatch, the car also looks and feels much roomier inside, almost equivalent to the size of a small sedan. The base variant includes a comprehensive safety package, plus a range of technology bonuses designed to provide greater driving convenience. An upgrade to the Premium version brings dual-zone climate control, a powered sunroof, adjustable front seats with heating, plus leather finishes. Supported by a 28kWh lithium-ion battery, the IONIQ can produce 88kW and 295Nm while achieving a driving range of approximately 230km. Being fully electric there is great enterprise and dash from a stationary position, with the ride also feeling quite poised and settled. If Australia was ever in need of a catalyst to spark EV sales, this could be just the answer to convert you from conventional cars.

Electric vehicles are known for being expensive. Even a car like the Hyundai IONIQ Electric Premium seems to mock the Korean manufacturer’s own value-buy brand image. At $53,010 plus on-road costs – and with $495 added for the test vehicle’s metallic paint – the IONIQ is up around the same price as a BMW 220i Gran Coupe. Now, how hard do you reckon it would...

Hats off to Hyundai Australia for offering a mainstream model covering the gamete of petrol-electric hybrid and full zero (tailpipe) emissions powertrain options. Power walking the walk while other new car brands are still just talking the EV talk. The Ioniq, a mid-size, five-seat, five-door hatch arrived here in late 2018, in three configurations – Hybrid,...

Electric vehicles have traditionally been the preserve of early adopters and wealthy, green-minded buyers. They're impressive, but cars like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace aren't going to convert the masses to electric power. Arriving in showrooms now, accompanied by a pair of hybrids, the Ioniq Electric is more than Hyundai's first local push to the wo...
