This really boils down to what you're looking for in a car. Keep in mind the Captiva is now quite a few years old, which means there are no shortage of alternatives out there on the market at this moment with up-to-date technology and features. Nonetheless, the Captiva had a good reputation for being an affordable, mid-sized family SUV, but if you were looking for something with off-road attributes and sportier dynamics, you would have had better choices back in the day, and especially now.
In July 2017, Holden announced that by the end of the following year it would phase out the Captiva from the Australian and New Zealand car markets. This was well before Holden discontinued operations in Australia, and the move was designed to provide space in the range for the introduction of the Equinox, which arrived in November, 2017, and the Acadia, which arrived in November, 2018. The duo replaced the five and seven-seat variants of the Captiva respectively, while the Captiva name was retired globally in September, 2018.
The Captiva may have had a good record on the whole thanks to its affordable price-tag and broad practicality, but reliability was never a strong point for this series. Some of the more frequent issues that owners of a Captiva reported over the years included oil leaks, camshaft issues, failures surrounding the diesel particulate filter, gremlins with the electronics, as well as occasional engine issues like timing chain failures.

View ReviewBy the early part of this century, it was painfully obvious that nobody was going to survive selling or making cars here if they didn’t have an SUV in their showrooms. Ford took the step of designing and building the Territory here, but Holden’s first attempt was the neither fish-nor-fowl Adventra. But instead of having a post-Adventra crack at another local...
View ReviewEverything works; nothing has stopped working or fallen off. Around town it is returning 9.3L/100km, Holden claims 8.4L/100km. Towing reduces economy to 11.9–12.3L/100km. The engine temp towing in 40-degree heat is 103°C, normally 93°C. Servicing costs? It came with three years free servicing, and MyLink works very well in Android. The storage spaces are eve...
