When it comes to vehicles produced by Great Wall, major improvements have been made over the years. If you're looking for a dependable vehicle to last hundreds of thousands of kilometres, a number of other brands have proven themselves worthy, but a Great Wall still has its place as a shorter-term vehicle for several years.
While Great Wall has developed its commercial and engineering acumen in recent years, the Chinese auto-maker has long relied on a partnership with foreign companies to complement its own capabilities. As a result, for much of its history, Great Wall has been using petrol engines bought under licence from Mitsubishi, although its diesel engines have long been an in-house production drawing on Great Wall's design and manufacturing know-how.
It may be one of the most affordable 4x4 double-cab utes on the market, but a highlight of the Great Wall Steed was its towing capacity for much of its early life, although that is in retrospect now that the model has been refreshed as part of the GWM line-up. The Steed originally came with a braked towing capacity of up to 2.5 tonnes, and an unbraked towing capacity of 750 kilograms. As part of the latest iteration, the Steed is now rate at up to 1700kg braked and 750kg unbraked, whereas the Great Wall Cannon ute has become the workhorse in the auto-maker's line-up.
