BMW X3
Going toe-to-toe with the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, the BMW X3 is one of the frontrunners in the mid-size luxury SUV segment. From the outside it looks almost like a mini version of the X5, which already makes it a winner with a gorgeous profile and plenty of finer details. The cabin is smart and classy, without too much in the way of distraction, rather, an emphasis on quality materials, particularly at all the touch-points. The infotainment system is intuitive to use, while both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay make the cut. Advanced safety aids are fitted to the X3, but one of the real highlights of this range is the practicality and versatility on offer. The cabin feels spacious in every respect, with rear passengers given plenty of amenities to feel at ease no matter how long you spend on the road. A powered tailgate and rear foldable seats are delightful touches, complementing the 500L boot, which can extend to 1600L when the X3 is optimised for a larger space. The inclusion of an eight-speed torque converter automatic is a perfect companion to the punchy and responsive range of engines, and on the road that makes for a smooth and confident ride with terrific road-handling qualities. All told, the X3 is a well balanced unit, delivering supreme comfort, and a more sporty dynamic than its rivals that makes this fun to drive.

If someone you know has bought a BMW X3, you’ll know about it. Why? Because, at least in my experience, X3 owners are almost evangelical about how much they love their cars. They’re impressed with the driver-assistance tech on offer, they think it looks and feels premium, and they’re more than happy with the amount of oomph they’re getting from the engine. T...

Until recently, BMW had seemingly left no stone unturned with its SUV arsenal both here in Australia and abroad. It made popular the luxury SUV trend started by Range Rover in 1970 with the original BMW X5 in 1999, then cashed in on the small SUV obsession with the X1, helped invent the ‘coupe-SUV’ genre with the original X6, followed by the X2 and X4, and f...

Big fast SUVs have long been a guilty pleasure of mine. My brain has been telling me for years, since the first time I drove one - the first-gen Audi SQ5 - that they're silly and wasteful and 'not my kind of car'. The Europeans - and latterly, the Americans - seem to be playing to an audience of me, convincing my prejudiced head that my try-anything heart is...

For now at least, BMW has had its fill of wrapping electric powertrains in weird bodies, so it has changed tack completely for next year’s all-electric iX3 SUV.  Instead of looking like a glorious concept as it did with the i8, or like a conglomerate of vertical shapes like the i3, the iX3 looks almost identical to any other BMW X3. It is built on a hybrid-s...

It’s an all-new BMW M car, and as such something to get pretty excited about, since it’s not every year we get one. But it’s also a mid-size performance SUV – and in that sense one of an increasing number of cars that seem to arrive every few weeks. Nonetheless, this is M’s first full-fat X3, and appears at the same time as its ‘coupe’ X4 M Competition siste...

From all the research I did back in 2020, the BMW X3 ticked all my boxes, it had the largest boot space of its segment, stylish interior, creature comforts and more inbuilt technology than I could possibly keep up with. After over a year of ownership, I’m still discovering new useful things that put a smirk on my face. It doesn’t hurt that this car is quite...
