BMW M4
In a tough corner of the market, BMW has pulled out the big guns to try gain an edge over its peers. The M4 has already been a quality name, oozing class and performance. However, the 2022 M4 adds more competency, thanks largely to improved power output, and the introduction of BMW’s all-wheel-drive format, the xDrive all-paw system. A 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 is the star of the show here, offering 650Nm of torque, and 375kW of power. That’s blistering under any circumstances, however, with the slick dynamics of the M4, this is a no-holds barred unit fit for the racetrack. And that shows up in the 0-100km/h sprint time, which sits comfortably under 4 seconds. In what is a unique trait, drivers can disengage the front axle to transform this from an all-wheel-drive unit into a rear-wheel-drive roadster. Bursting with advanced tech and safety, and all that high-end BMW finesse inside the cabin, the M4 takes no prisoners in its pursuit for all-out glory.

The good news is the new sixth-generation M3 saloon and second-generation M4 coupe are on course for Australian delivery during the first half of 2021. Despite the broad disruption to its operations brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, BMW’s M division continues to hold firm to plans to reveal both models in September, prior to a start to production and sales b...

What’s that famous saying -- if at first you don’t succeed? BMW could be accused of trying again with the new M4 CS, which arrives in Australian showrooms this month as the latest spin-off since the M3/M4 duo landed in 2014. Or, the M division could simply be proliferating its model line-up, following in the wheel tracks of German rivals including Porsche, w...

Will this, er, striking new BMW be remembered as the most controversial car released in the 2020s? It’s quite possible. After all, there isn’t another vehicle in recent memory that gets enthusiast blood boiling so quickly and so often. Yep, the second-generation BMW M4 risks being remembered for the wrong reasons, and it all has to do with that oversized, ey...

At times, we go through life wondering how we will react in certain situations. Will we step up and be strong, will we cope, are we ready? There’s a much larger discussion to all of this, but there are at least two car-based things I’ve been fastidiously training for all my life, mentally and physically. One, is someone saying "follow that car!", the other i...

Never before has a new BMW M3 (or M4) sparked as much discussion about design than the latest iteration, and it’s all about that giant nose. I get it, photos make it look plain wrong, but up close and in the metal it’s not as confronting. Granted, the grille with some of the largest kidneys on a BMW since the 327 is definitely in your face, but after a few h...

This new BMW M4 had a lot riding on its chunky new shoulders. Its predecessor didn’t have that point of difference that either the charismatic V8 E92 M3 Coupe had or the much-cherished E46 straight-six howler before it. The internet decided as soon as the big grille was made public that this was the worst one yet, as though mere ephemera such as styling coul...
