The Ultima and V6 GLX models boast seating for up to seven occupants, favouring amenity, comfort and luxury over capacity. On the other hand, the GLi and four-cylinder models within the range were equipped with seating for up to eight occupants, with the middle-row captain's chairs removed for a three-row bench configuration that is more about practicality and flexibility than premium comfort.
Named after a small town in southern NSW, the Tarago was an eight-seat people-mover van that had a distinct audience in Australia. The Tarago badge was also specific to the local new car market, as in other markets this unit was called the Previa or Estima.
The Toyota Tarago enjoyed a long life in the Australian new car market, first unveiled all the way back in 1983. The longest-running generation was that released in 2006, which only received a minor refreshment in 2016. It wasn't long after, however, that Toyota decided to retire the Tarago in 2019, with the new Granvia stepping in as a fitting replacement within the Japanese auto-maker's line-up.
