Find out the Toyota Prius 2020 price today!
When it comes to hybrid cars, the Toyota Prius has long been one of the first names on the top of most buyers shopping lists. Backed by more than 25 years of development, the Prius is an efficient and precise vehicle offering a generous serving of equipment and features, a spacious cabin with roominess, pleasant driving dynamics, and reliability that is second to none. It may wear a slightly dearer price-tag than some of its familiar peers.
For all its 'green' credentials, one of the criticisms of the Prius concerns the level of energy and carbon dioxide emissions arising from the production of this unit. On that front, production of the Prius has a greater long-term impact on the environment than many petrol-powered vehicles. The biggest driver of this is the hybrid batteries that create problems for the environment. Outside of that, you may appreciate the greater ride height of a crossover, or the more affordable price-point found in other hatchbacks on the market, which even includes the Corolla Hybrid.
Despite low sales in a market where hybrid vehicles are only growing in popularity, even if slowly, the Prius remains part of Toyota's plans for the Australian new car market. The impact of emerging competition in the hybrid category has taken its toll, including the rise of its brand-peer, the RAV4, but Toyota responded to this by axing the Prius c from its line-up to focus on the original Prius and the roomier Prius V.
There was once a time when ‘Prius’ was the sole synonym for ‘hybrid’. In fact, at various points throughout its 23-year history, the Prius has been synonymous with plenty of words – ranging from ‘vegan’ and ‘environmentalist’, to ‘Hollywood celebrity’ and ‘smug’. “How do you know if someone drives a Prius?" internet memes have wisecracked, “Don’t worry, they...
View ReviewThe Toyota Prius has been around for 20 years and the concept hasn’t changed a lot in that time. It was pioneering for its day and indeed for the first decade, but how does it compete in the hybrid/electric motor field today? I was interested because I’ve never driven a Prius before and I’m a fan of hybrids (or anything that contributes less emissions to th...
View ReviewYeah, I know. The Toyota Prius may be the antithesis of an enthusiast car, but they’ve sold over six million units globally, and it’s well and truly the best-selling hybrid/electric vehicle in the world. The latest iteration of the Prius brings with it performance gains, plus a new platform. The Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) is a modular platform Toy...
