Much like the Toyota HiLux, the Fortuner isn't available in the United States because it fails to meet the country's emission standards. As a result, buyers in the US are unable to source the vehicle, which would require extensive modifications in order to be made compliant with local standards. In its place, Toyota offers the 4Runner to American motorists, however, this model is not directly comparable to the Fortuner and sees compromises in some areas.
As one of the top-end models in the Toyota line-up, known for its impeccable showing and seemingly indestructible build quality, the Fortuner commands a premium price compared with some of the other models in the Japanese company's stable. When you take a look at the specs sheet, however, it's not hard to see why, because there are advancements right across the board here in terms of all the features, amenity and safety aids. As a big SUV that is very adept on and off-road, you certainly get what you pay for here.
No, as mentioned above, the Fortuner is not sold in the USA. It is sold in a number of other markets, however, including Australia. Some of the other markets you can find the Toyota Fortuner include South America, Asia, Russia and parts of Africa. As you'll notice, the Fortuner isn't available in Europe either. The main point of contention is the vehicle's emissions output, with regions like the US and Europe imposing more strict measures governing this.
