Over the years, Tata has made two efforts to penetrate the Australian new car market, however, on neither occasion was it successful in making an impact with local motorists. In 2013, the most-recent occasion that Tata entered the local market, the company unveiled the Xenon ute, which was a successor to the Telcoline. It was the brand's only model on sale down under, but with a number of other budget brands beating it to the punch, the Xenon was retired from Australia in 2019.
You could draw a number of conclusions as to why the Tata Xenon failed, however, the reality is that the car did not resonate with local car buyers and not enough units were sold. Australian new car buyers have been spoiled for choice in terms of utes over the years, whether it be household names like the HiLux, Ranger and Triton, or up-and-comers like the Isuzu D-Max and many more. The Tata Xenon just didn't offer enough in the way of performance, amenity, safety or comfort to outlast its peers, even though it was priced very aggressively.
Following the retirement of the Xenon ute, Tata no longer sells any cars across the Australian new car market. The Indian auto-maker previously made its cars available to Australian motorists via Melbourne-based importer Fusion Automotive, which then distributed the Xenon across a network of dealers around the country. Nonetheless, those days are now well and truly over, and there is also no signs that Tata is about to relaunch down under for a third attempt at cracking the market.

But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
