Before the JT Series of the Grand Vitara was discontinued, new car buyers had the option to step into a four-wheel drive vehicle. The auto-maker's 'Drive Select' 4WD system gave drivers the ability to switch between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 100km/h. While not a full 4x4 configuration, nor a dedicated one for that matter, the flexibility of this set-up with a switchable low-ratio gearbox was a defining point for enthusiasts of the Grand Vitara, and should the vehicle return down under, one can hope it features prominently.
While the naming convention might be a little confusing at first glance, these were definitely two distinctive units, at least before the Grand Vitara was retired.
