The latest Porsche 718 is available in your choice of either a convertible or coupe, although both are limited to petrol engines at this stage. The most-affordable variant in the 718 line-up is the 718 Cayman in coupe guise, starting from a price of $115,900 before on-road costs and options. On the other hand, the 718 Cayman GT4 is the top-spec variant across the range, and also the dearest, coming in at $214,680 plus on-road costs and optional extras.
The quickest variants in the Porsche 718 line-up, which are the 718 Cayman GTS, 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Boxster 25 years, can all sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.5 seconds. That is impressive to say the least, and certainly what we would call a fast car. The 718 Boxster S and 718 Cayman S have a comparable time of 4.6 seconds, while the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman clock in at a respectable 5.1 seconds.
If you ask Porsche, they see 718 as more than just a number. In fact, they put forward the view that: "It stands for winning, excellence and performance. The name of a game-changing race car that's inspired two acclaimed modern sports cars – the 718 Cayman GTS and 718 Boxster GTS". Of course, if you want to be more specific about the origins of the 718 name, the designation comes from the legendary sports car that Porsche rolled out in 1957 to much acclaim across the racing industry.
