Peugeot 308
Today it may be credited as the inspiration and base for the SUV under the same brand banner, however the Peugeot 308 emerged from a pedigree of European hatchback fame. So to truly appreciate the engineering know-how and stylistic evolution on display, it helps to take the French manufacturer’s prodigious history into account. With that, you know you’re in for a luxurious treat that is as reliable as it is gorgeous. The checklist of standard features runs deep, as you would expect for a car that is priced around the middle of the pack, neither the most affordable of its peers, nor the cheapest. Design takes on a different function here, with a sophisticated body complemented by a high-quality, conservative looking interior. Luggage capacity is outstanding since Peugeot has managed to eke out an impressive amount of volume in the trunk. Despite its miniature size, and a three cylinder turbo motor that barely gets past 96kW, the 308 offers an unbelievable 1200kg braked towing capacity. So if you value practicality and versatility ahead of a nimble mover - notwithstanding the sharp steering and endearing ride comfort - this has all the hallmarks of a car that you will love at first sight.

Vive le différence. French car giant Peugeot continues to be a small player on Australia’s rich new-car-market stage, and certainly in terms of sales volume. It’s a little confounding, certainly when looking at the 2020 Peugeot 308 hatchback – a sleek and stylish take on the formula. But, it also plays in a crowded small-car segment where choices abound, bot...

Earlier this year, Peugeot Australia cut its 308 hatchback line-up down to two variants, deleting the sporty GT due to slow sales and simply offering an entry-grade Allure from $30,499 (plus on-road costs) and a new top-spec GT Line, which we’re testing here. On sale since April 2020, the 308 GT Line is priced from $34,990 plus ORCs and shares the same small...

If variety is the spice of life, then the hatchback market in Australia must be the among the spiciest in the world, given the sheer variety of vehicles  on offer to consumers. And that's a very good thing, and it means you can pick from world-renowned volume marques like Toyota’s Corolla or Volkswagen’s Golf, or choose from the best of Asia and Europe’s mor...

It’s been a bit of a rough patch for French car fans and sympathisers of warm versions of the Peugeot 308. The feisty 200kW GTi hot hatch is no longer making the boat trip across the big pond and the rather likeable 165kW GT is a victim of Europe’s tightening emissions regulations.    That leaves a relative newcomer to Aussie roads and showrooms in the form...
