As far as new car favourites go, the Micra will always have a good reputation for everything it offered and accomplished. It is good that second-hand buyers can find the Micra today, although the new car market is worse for not having this former favourite. Nonetheless, the Micra is a compact car that handles well, is perky on the road thanks to its sharp engine, and is also effortless to drive thanks to its agility and impressive turning circle. The Micra made everyday commuting an easy task, something that not many cars can achieve to this day.
The Nissan Micra was chopped from the Australian market in 2016 on the back of a slump in sales. Small car sales dropped quite notably in the years after the Micra was launched, and when the final units were cleared from the local car market in 2017, it was evident to many that the forces had conspired against its future success. Nissan opted to shift its focus to other vehicles in its line-up, particularly SUVs, which have become a mainstay on roads around the country.
Although it hasn't been sold for a few years now since its departure in 2016, the future of the Nissan Micra down under isn't entirely resolved. The CEO of Nissan Australia was recently on record as saying that he wanted to import the new-generation Micra into Australia. This version was released in Europe shortly after the model was phased out of Australia. There would be a number of hurdles before this could come to fruitiion, although the prospect of a snazzy, compact and punchy Micra might be alive once again - only time will tell.
