For so long, the Nissan Leaf was a category best-seller, dominating the sales charts in the EV segment for much of the decade after it was unveiled. The Leaf held the title as the all-time top-selling plug-in electric car until late 2019/early 2020, at which point it was topped by the Tesla Model 3. In case it wasn't clear, however, the Leaf is an all-electric car, and in many respects, it has been a pioneer within the industry insofar as making EVs more affordable to many.
We understand that one of the barriers for some when it comes to electric vehicles is the time it takes to charge the battery, so it's important to get the right info up front to help you make an informed decision. On that note, it's worth pointing out that at 240V, a new Nissan LEAF will fully charge in about 8–12 hours. The difference will depend on the battery, with 40kWh batteries taking about 8 hours to reach a full charge, and 62kWh batteries requiring around 12 hours for a full charge.
Providing you take care of your car, the Nissan Leaf certainly has a battery that can go the distance with you. On average, you can expect to get around 10 years of life out of the battery found in the Leaf. When you consider that your standard driver might do about 20-25,000 kilometres per year in driving, that gives you an EV that should last at least 150,000 kilometres, if not more than 200,000 kilometres. These estimates are a good starting point, but as with all things to do with cars, many variables come into the equation.

The engineers in Turin have updated the infotainment, interior trim, and driver assists to make its beautiful sports sedan a better rival for its German foes – and they’ve done a pretty good job of it. But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
