• What does SL stand for in Mercedes-Benz cars?

  The SL-Class is a grand tourer sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. As is the case with the rest of the Mercedes-Benz range, the German auto-maker draws upon its native tongue to come up with the naming of its SL-Class range. The designation SL derives from the German word Sport-Leicht, which in English translates as Sport Light. It might not be overly creative, but the name certainly fits the bill.

• Is the Mercedes SL discontinued?

  2020 marked the end of production for the current-generation Mercedes SL, and it also meant the two-seater SLC was discontinued as the company refocused its efforts on SUVs. Nonetheless, the Mercedes-Benz SL, also known as the SL-Class, retains a presence. The 2022 release of the SL-Class is being reinvigorated thanks to an overhaul from Mercedes-Benz's performance division, AMG, with the SL officially set to fall under the Mercedes-AMG brand moving forward.

• Is the Mercedes SL a 4 seater?

  Traditionally, the SL has been a two-seat roadster, bringing all the perks that come with a sports convertible. However, the new Mercedes-AMG SL shakes things up, with the drop-top set to feature seating for up to four. In its seventh-generation, the SL will be pulling off a feat that has only been seen twice in this range across nearly 70 years. Sometimes you don't necessarily have to reinvent the wheel to deliver a fresh, new take on an old classic.
