Find out the Mercedes-Benz GLS 2020 price today!
Previously known as the GL, the modern-day GLS is one of a series of Mercedes-Benz SUVs that all feature the first two letters "GL" in their name. The third letter in the name represents the model series for the respective range, and in this case, that is the 'S' range. It's also worth noting that the "G" at the beginning of the name stands for ‘geländewagen’, which is German for off-road vehicle.
The GLS 550 is a step-up from its sibling, offering a much more performance-oriented SUV. It is a lot more powerful with a significantly higher level of torque, taking less effort to hit those high notes on the road. However, it isn't really just down to straight-line speed here, because in addition to a more vigorous level of power, the GLS 550 is equipped with tyres, brakes and a suspension set-up that have all been tweaked for optimal performance.
It is far too complicated a matter to give any single, direct answer here, because one car will vary from the next. The key influence will be how well you maintain and look after the GLS, not to mention, your driving style. Nonetheless, sometimes there is also an element of luck involved, as some GLS SUVs might begin having minor issues from 80,000km, while others that have been regularly maintained can easily stretch past 300,000km with few issues.
Finally a chance to hit the open road! Like many around the country, my family and I were confined to our immediate home area for the majority of last year, so with school holidays, relaxed restrictions and the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS450 all in alignment, we got out of town. The GLS has been in our care since August, so you can catch up on the introduction an...
View ReviewHanding back a long-term loan car isn’t always easy. Case in point, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS450 has been my faithful companion for the past six months or so. It was a pretty interesting time too, what with summer, winter, lockdowns, curfews and Melbourne’s infamous traffic experienced at polar opposite ends of the scale. And, like a faithful hound over som...
View ReviewMercedes-Benz dubs the GLS its “largest and most luxurious SUV”, and “the S-Class of SUVs”. These are bold claims from a pre-eminent luxury carmaker, cause for high expectations. This 5.2-metre long behemoth is now in its third-generation, and lines up against fellow luxury seven-seaters such as the Audi Q7/SQ7, BMW X7, and Volvo XC90, although we’d bank on...
View Review5 0 5 The Wheels Verdict: The GLS’s only major downfall is the price premium Mercedes demands compared to key German rivals. However, judged on its merits, the big Benz delivers, with real presence and almost unparalleled cabin space and comfort. A gutsy diesel engine, paired with refined ride and dynamics make it a compelling all-rounder. Now in its third g...
