The Mercedes-Benz E220 is no longer sold across Australia, however, you can still find quite a few models floating about in the second-hand market. The difference between the two is that the E200 is a petrol variant, while the E220, which is typically referenced with a 'd' suffix, is a diesel vehicle. There is no difference between the two as far as features, at least when comparing two models from the same year, although they did come with different levels of fuel efficiency, power and performance.
Although the E-Class Mercedes-Benz nowadays is associated with its tied to being an 'executive' vehicle, the history of the name actually goes back further. Originally the E stood for Einspritzmotor, which is the German word for a fuel injection engine. After 1993, the E switched from being a suffix, at the time denoting what was effectively a standard fuel injection system, to being a model name. And with that, today it's more used as a sign of the range's place within the German auto-maker's stable of cars.
