CLS comes directly from the German name for this series, which is Coupe Leicht Sportlich. In English that translates to Coupé Light Sport. Mercedes-Benz uses the CL prefix for representing their 4-door coupe sedans, which are characterised by nimble driving dynamics, efficiency and superb build quality. The CLS range offers the best of both worlds when it comes to a luxury sedan and sports-car dynamics, which means it is one impressive and highly-regarded stable.
No, the Mercedes-Benz CLS is back and more beautiful than ever, with a new refreshed iteration drawing widespread acclaim. Perhaps you heard that Mercedes-Benz is planning to phase out some of their coupes and convertibles, and while that is true, the CLS remains, for now at least, while the SLC and two-door S-Class have been facing more uncertain futures after being discontinued in the US. The CLS is actually based on the popular E Class range, utilising the same platform, architecture and technology.
