The all-new MX-30 is available as a mild hybrid, featuring a unique mild hybrid engine, and also as an all-electric vehicle. In the latter, Mazda uses a 107kW and 271Nm electric motor that is powered by a 35.5kWh lithium-ion battery. Using a single-speed reduction gear, power is distributed to the front wheels of the MX-30, and the results are breathtaking, you won't even realise there is a gearbox. Whichever version you opt for, you'll love the results, but the electric version is a glimpse into the automotive future.
With just one all-electric variant currently on offer, pricing for the new MX-30 EV is consistent, but likely to raise an eyebrow. This slick unit will cost you $65,490 before on-road costs, so by the time you add those in, you're looking at something above the $70,000 mark for a drive-away price. Of course, if you prefer the mild hybrid version, you have a number of options from which to choose, and prices there begin at $33,990, plus on-road costs.
The Mazda MX-30 is one the latest creations to come out of the Japanese auto-maker's stables. This compact crossover SUV taps into the next-generation of drivetrain technology, with the MX-30 offered only as either a mild hybrid or all-electric car. First unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the MX-30 finally landed down under in Australia in early 2021 to high praise.

But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
