If you're a young first car buyer, or looking for an entry point into the Japanese brand's range, the Mazda 2 is a wonderful choice and also one of Australia’s most popular city cars. Around two decades since it was first launched, the Mazda 2 has continually improved – in performance, value and standard features – becoming a straightforward choice for many new car buyers thanks to its sharp-looking design, clever technology and quality interior setting. Competing against the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Yaris and Honda Jazz, the Mazda 2 faces stiff competition, but it still emerges towards the front of the class.
The Mazda 2 has not been discontinued, rather, certain variants from the line-up have been phased out, including the Genki, MAXX and Neo. These models were among the more affordable options in the Mazda 2 range, with the brand moving towards a more upmarket and comprehensive offering complete with the latest safety technology. The current Mazda 2 line-up features the G15 Pure, G15 Evolve and G15 GT, with the Pure and GT available as either a hatch or sedan, while the Evolve is only available as a hatch.
No, the Mazda 2 is actually a front-wheel drive car. In fact, not many hatchbacks are available as rear-wheel drive as they are usually pitched to buyers as more family-friendly and practical units for inner-city driving. A RWD configuration actually takes away some of the interior space of a car, and generally leads to higher prices as well. Of course, some performance-oriented hatchbacks over time have come with RWD, but it is a rare inclusion!

I've found the Mazda 2 to be everything I want in a small car. Its performance is great. I did buy the top of the range with the front and rear cameras. The front camera can be a bit annoying as it beeps when still a fair distance from the object passing, even when parking beside long grass.

Excellent. It has lived up to our expectations. It is nice to drive and all the bells and whistles make driving a real pleasure. We have had no problems at all.
