If you really want to get technical, you could say the IS200t was discontinued. However, it is more appropriate to say that the same car is still being sold, albeit under a different name. The IS200t is now marketed as the IS300, and it boils down to a decision by Lexus to go head-to-head with some of its luxury rivals. In the case of the BMW and Mercedes-Benz, both brands retweaked the naming of some of their mid-tier models to avoid a perception they were lower-tier models with less powerful engines, something Lexus has done as well.
This is one car that offers a really delicate blend of smooth, effortless operation, and extensive gratification when you take this car out of the garage. We can't downplay the performance traits of this dynamic unit, which feels nimble, sharp, and responsive. It is a quiet unit that you won't have any problems parking, or getting used to the tech on offer, and combined with a high level of practicality, the IS200t is a highly commendable name in a field complete with better-known models from German rivals.
All of the IS200t sedans are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine. This punchy engine is capable of producing 180kW of power at 5800rpm, 350Nm of torque at 1650rpm. This model was available in rear-wheel-drive format only, with an eight-speed automatic transmission pulling the strings. So back to the name, and as you might be able to tell by now, the 200 represents the size of the engine, and the t represents the turbo capacity.
The 2017 Lexus IS200t Luxury is the cheapest version of the car available, but it doesn't feel cheap.
View ReviewPeter Anderson road tests and reviews the new Lexus IS200t F Sport with specs, fuel consumption and verdict. Long ago, the Lexus IS overtook the LS as the most recognisable Lexus on the road. With strong, angular styling, sharp pricing and spec against the Germans, and a 2.0-litre straight six engine, it seems like Lexus sold a million of them and only one o...
View ReviewAlfa Romeo has been hard at work refining the Giulia. The engineers in Turin have updated the infotainment, interior trim, and driver assists to make its beautiful sports sedan a better rival for its German foes – and they’ve done a pretty good job of it. But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
