Kia Soul
Another casualty to the SUV frenzy, the Kia Soul enters its final run after the Korean manufacturer decided to pull the pin on its funky head-turner. With its edgy personality an immediate observation, it’s important to note the car has been a success in the US. Kia recently reduced the local price and any remaining stock will surely be in line for a further discount, so there’s good news if you have your mind set on an accessible and practical hatch. Why is it so accessible and practical you ask? Well, for starters, the box-like shape of the Soul incorporates a low floor and high, wide-opening doors, thus making it easier to enter and exit the vehicle. There is also an above average level of space in the rear compared with both its peers and SUVs in the small size category. The 4-cylinder 2L engine pumps out 112kW and 192Nm, which makes for a spry and chirpy level of movement. Elsewhere, the handling and suspension ensure the car always feels planted to the road. It’s glaring that the Soul has struggled in Australia, but not for reasons concerning performance. Now, more than ever, it presents a rousing ownership opportunity.

Korean car maker Kia will eventually be spoiled for choice when not one but two electric cars arrive in Australian showrooms some time in 2021, about a year later than originally planned. However, they likely won’t come cheap if European pricing is a guide. In Germany the Kia E-Soul city hatch (pictured below) starts from €33,990 (A$54,500) while the slightl...

The world needs more cars like the Kia Soul EV. Australia, too. It’s a battery-electric car that looks like fun, drives well, is sized right and promises to be good value. Right now, it’s clearly aimed at the USA and youthful early adopters. Even so, Kia Australia is committed to releasing at least two electric cars Down Under by 2021, and the new Soul EV ci...

Alexander Stoklosa • If you can picture rhythmic, life-size anthropomorphic hamsters, it is (hopefully) because of Kia's catchy marketing effort for the Soul subcompact crossover. We won't judge you if it isn't. Perhaps the Soul is familiar because one recently whisked you from a bar after being summoned by a ride-hailing app. Or, maybe, you or someone you k...

Alfa Romeo has been hard at work refining the Giulia. The engineers in Turin have updated the infotainment, interior trim, and driver assists to make its beautiful sports sedan a better rival for its German foes – and they’ve done a pretty good job of it. But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
