The first electric car to make its way out of the Jaguar stables, the I-Pace is a brand new and contemporary take on the luxury SUV. In fact, it was the first all-electric sports utility vehicle among the premium auto-makers, including other high-profile European brands. Heralding the new era is a completely refreshed design, one that pushes Jaguar into a trendy and vogue direction. Gone is the long sweeping bonnet of the traditional Jag, instead there is a short bonnet and settled stance which looks delightfully aggressive. A longer wheelbase also works wonders, with extra space instilled into the advanced cabin that boasts great elegance, amenity and safety. The hallmark of the I-Pace is of course its electric competencies. Courtesy of an enormous 90kWh battery pack and regenerative braking setup, driving range is likely to top around 300km in the real world. Considering the car weighs around 2.2 tonnes, the low-lying batteries actually help keep it planted to the ground and minimise rolling through corners, with the ride even smoother if opting for optional air suspension. And then there is the sheer intensity and resolve available, with 294kW and 696Nm more than enough for even the most ardent petrolhead to consider a switch to electric. While Jaguar cars have often attracted some criticism in terms of reliability, the I-Pace scraps those concerns from the get-go. The Jaguar I-Pace offers a very commendable driving range of 470km based on the Worldwide harmonized Light-duty vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). That is a great feature that we think will appeal to buyers with all sorts of needs for a family car. On top of the impressive driving range, the I-Pace leverages fast-charging capabilities, with an 11kW charger offering 53km of range per hour. In terms of other options, a 50kW charger adds 63km of driving range in just 15 minutes, while a 100kW charger can get you going up to 127km after just a quarter of an hour charging.
