It's never an easy gig as a car manufacturer, trying to create the next big model that sells like hotcakes. For the QX30, despite leveraging some of the architecture and mechanical know-how of Mercedes-Benz, the model struggled to take off in terms of sales. Infiniti was on record as saying that the QX30 "incurred disappointing sales results globally, and we concluded that there is no longer a viable business case for it to be offered in our lineup."
Yes, at a global level the 2019 model year was the last for the QX30, while in Australia that translated into the 2020 model year offering. Infiniti's smallest crossover offering, and previously the most-affordable model in its line-up, the brand made the decision to discontinue the QX30 after just a couple of years, which is a shame given the positive reception it received. The car was developed as part of a partnership with Mercedes-Benz, featuring a number of similarities with the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class crossover.
The QX30 was produced by Infiniti, which is the luxury marque of Japanese auto manufacturer Nissan. It was established in 1989, with the company's headquarters located in Yokohama, Japan. Although it may not have the big-name brand appeal as other high-end makes like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, among others, Infiniti is a top-tier luxury auto-maker. The Infiniti range has been produced in Japan and the UK, with the brand's vehicles exported to a number of markets around the world. Sadly, Australia is no longer one of those markets, with the brand withdrawing from the local car market in 2020. The QX30 was one model where the company effectively partnered with Mercedes-Benz to develop this unit, with the platform, engine and switchgear supplied by the German brand.
Infiniti QX30 2.0T AWD Premium Quick Spin What’s it all about? The British-built QX30 compact SUV is the higher-riding, all-wheel drive version of Infiniti’s new Q30 hatch. Taller (+35mm) and wider (+10mm) than its derivative, the QX30 is otherwise identical, but offers only the 155kW/350Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and seven-speed dual-clu...
View ReviewEwan Kennedy road tests and reviews the 2017 Infiniti QX30 Premium with specs, fuel consumption and verdict. The new Infiniti QX30 sits on the same platform as the Infiniti Q30 we recently reported on, but is 35 mm higher and has a more aggressive appearance. It's part hatchback, part SUV, with a solid touch of coupe in its shape. It shares some of its under...
View ReviewInfiniti adds to its volume-chasing Q30 range, with a high-riding, all-wheel drive variant that brings off-road potential. WHAT IS IT?A higher-riding, all-wheel-drive variant of Infiniti’s recently launched Q30 premium compact front-drive crossover. Like that car, it shares its platform, drivetrain and some interior architecture with the Mercedes-Benz GLA. W...
