Find out the Hyundai IONIQ 2019 price today!
Few Australians would have tried a hybrid or even fully-electric vehicle thus far, but trust us, you'll be blown away from the get-go. Hybrid and electric vehicle pricing remains a barrier for many new car buyers, however, if you can afford to make the switch, you won't be disappointed here because you have a car that brings to life the practicality and convenience that most drivers want in their day-to-day lives, as well as ride quality credentials that would otherwise be unfamiliar or unavailable to many outside of the luxury European brands.
According to Hyundai, as a pure electric vehicle the latest IONIQ boasts a range of up to 311 km, although in the real world you are likely to get less than this. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid features a driving range that is quoted as 63 km in ideal conditions, although in practice it is closer towards half of this. In terms of the longevity of the battery itself, Hyundai provides an eight year warranty for the battery, which should provide a minimum expectation. The battery has been designed with a 20-year lifespan in mind, but the actual lifetime will depend on usage among other things.
Once you've made the decision to opt for a hybrid, there is very little separating these two gems, with the Prius arguably more suited to longer-distance drivers, and those seeking a greater deal of amenity as far as standard inclusions. But in terms of the duo's driving attributes, the IONIQ slightly nudges ahead thanks to its ride quality and better performance. It's a different proposition if you commit to the fully-electric IONIQ variant, as the Prius isn't a like-for-like peer. In that case, you might want to compare the IONIQ against the cut-price MG ZS EV, Nissan Leaf or Hyundai Kona Electric.
Running on the promise of the most affordable electric car in the market isn’t exactly a sure-fire recipe for sales in Australia. But if the first generation of the Hyundai IONIQ Electric has taught us anything, it can’t hurt. On sale barely 12 months, the IONIQ portfolio of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric variants has built a steady local following...
View ReviewElectric vehicles have traditionally been the preserve of early adopters and wealthy, green-minded buyers. They're impressive, but cars like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace aren't going to convert the masses to electric power. Arriving in showrooms now, accompanied by a pair of hybrids, the Ioniq Electric is more than Hyundai's first local push to the wo...
