PMC Says...

With the last version of the Hyundai iMax discontinued in mid-2021, following the arrival of the all-new Staria van and people-mover range, its legacy has been reincarnated in a move that brings it into line with global markets. But it’s also a sad affair, because the iMax, in its own right, was a victim of its own success, being one of the early pioneers in this corner of the market. The space inside the iMax can only be comprehended when you’re fortunate enough to take up a spot in the second row, and even then, once things are in motion, the ride comfort is second to none. Like its cousin in the iLoad, active safety is found wanting in this model, and that partly explains why Hyundai was forced to recalibrate its efforts into the one model under the high-tech Staria. But with a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel four-pot that offered 125kW of power and 441Nm of torque, it’s hard not to miss what was a solid showing from the iMax when it came to performing on the road. Huge boot space is par for the course, but the real surprise packet is the ergonomic comfort of the seating inside this people-mover. While its replacement clearly offers improvement, the final version of the iMax ticks a lot of boxes for those that want a straightforward, comfortable, and practical eight-seater.
