Holden established a pretty good name for itself over the years when it came to mid-size sedans, and the Malibu was another example of the company's automotive expertise, even though this particular model was imported from South Korea. It was a good size for a large family, and it also felt easier to handle and control than the Commodore. The option of a turbo diesel variant was great for those seeking a bit of oopmh, while the standard equipment list was never short of generosity.
When it was last offered in Australia, the Holden Malibu was offered with a choice of either diesel or petrol engines. These engines varied, including a 2.4-litre petrol with six-speed automatic, and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel motor with six-speed auto gearbox. Both versions featured four cylinders, with power ranging from 123kW at 5800 rpm and 117kW at 4000rpm, and torque spanning 225Nm at 4600rpm or 350Nm at 1750rpm.
The Holden Malibu was a replacement for the Epica, which wasn't a particularly strong name for the brand down under. That came about in 2013, however, the Malibu only enjoyed a short run until the end of model year 2016/17, as it was effectively replaced once Holden retired its manufacturing operations in Australia. From 2018, when Holden moved to import the Commodore from Germany, the final-generation Commodore served as a replacement for the Malibu.
