Between 1994 and 2017, all Australian-built Holden vehicles were manufactured in Elizabeth, South Australia. At the same time, however, the engines were produced at the Fishermans Bend plant in Melbourne. This included the Cascada series, where units were produced locally, despite the fact that the model was also sold in overseas markets.
The Cascada was retired from the Australian new car market following the 2017 model year, and that was largely a reflection of the fact that the car didn't quite penetrate the market as well as some of the brand's other names. Holden also made changes to its line-up as it decided to cease vehicle production in Australia and moved towards importing models in its final years. Overseas, with Opel sold to French car-maker Groupe PSA, that ultimately led to the discontinuation of the Cascada amid sluggish sales.
Holden was producing the Cascada locally until it shut its manufacturing plant in South Australia. But at the same time, the Cascada was also replicated in overseas markets for different marques, including Opel, Vauxhall and Buick. These models were manufactured in Poland and exported accordingly. Of course, the Cascada is no longer in production after being phased out of the General Motors and Groupe PSA stables.
The Cascada is one of those cars that makes you wonder what the heck the importer(in this case Holden) was thinking at the time.
