Holden Calais
Although a sense of trepidation has surrounded the latest generation of Holden cars being produced offshore, there certainly hasn’t been any drop in anticipation. Now, after some time settling itself into the local market, the Holden Calais is starting to get drivers talking about the famous iconic brand once again. Even though the much-famed V8 engine is no more, in settling between a 4-cylinder 2L turbocharged motor, or a 3.6L V6, both impress with intensity and enterprise. Perhaps it has as much to do with the nine-speed automatic transmission, which glides harmoniously through each gear. Other than the front-wheel drive base sedan, each variant, including the Tourer wagons, are built as AWD vehicles. Standard inclusions extend to emergency brake assistance - an increasingly necessary safety perk - as well as pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane observation aids and forward collision alerts. What you may well appreciate most however, is the completely redesigned look of the Calais, which now appears polished, cultured and cutting edge. Inside it’s as gorgeous and plush as it is outside, with a rich supply of leather and entertainment at one’s fingertips. Even with a toned-down engine, the Holden Calais dispenses an assertive and compelling act, making it a prized addition within any Holden aficionado’s garage.

Since its release, we’ve thought the wagon is the pick of the new Commodore range, and here we take a closer look at the 2019 Holden Commodore Calais Tourer to find out whether it responds well to the SUV ‘treatment’. Yes, it’s built in Germany. No, it’s not like the Aussie-built Commodore. Yes, things have changed. No, it isn’t V8 and RWD. We know all that....

It may no longer be built in Australia, but the fact is the latest generation Holden Commodore is a very solid European designed, engineered and built offering that brings a wide variety of choices to the staid mid-size car market. Backed by competitive pricing and one of Australia's biggest dealer networks, the German-built ZB Commodore is available in lift...

It’s long, sleek and elongated, with a sophisticated air about it. There’s a sense of refinement that we haven’t seen for a while with Holden, and while it’s not your brash Aussie anymore, I don’t think anyone will mind that touch of European styling. Wagons have come a long way in design and they’re looking rather elegant. Inside is good, too. There are lea...

Rather than hogging the keys, we're slinging them to frequent site visitors, commenters and members of owner groups. The idea is to get a range of perspectives on a certain car, and pull them together in one place. Danny Joseph is a long-time Holden fan, and a current-generation Commodore wagon owner. That makes him the perfect person to spend some time behi...

The Holden Calais V is the non-performance flagship of the new Holden ZB Commodore range, second only to the VXR grade in the Commodore hierarchy. Priced from $51,990, the ‘V’ variant comes standard with a V6 engine and all-wheel drive to help separate it from the front-drive 2.0-litre regular Calais that sits beneath it. Holden’s new large car offering has...
