If you are in the market for a practical family car that still fares well on the road as a nice car to drive, the Ford Kuga is a good option for an SUV. Do keep in mind, however, the Kuga is no longer sold new, so you will be looking at a second-hand version, which is likely to not have as many features as some of today's newer releases. Nonetheless, the last iteration of the Kuga offered a great assortment of features, safety aids and technology, plus solid driving dynamics.
Ford used a unique system on the Kuga for all-wheel drive functionality that it dubbed its 'intelligent' system. As such, the AWD set-up continuously monitors and keeps an eye on the driving scenario as well as the driver's input to establish the needs for torque distribution. In effect, the computerised system will respond with an optimal level of torque distribution where you need it most, at any given time.
It may have been a solid SUV, however, the Ford Kuga was on borrowed time in the Australian new car market, only last four years between 2012 and 2016. Sharing many of the same components as the Focus, thanks to the same architecture platform, it was a highly-regarded model, but it was effectively replaced by the Ford Escape, which was near-identical to its predecessor.
The 2016 Ford Kuga medium SUV range is one the best you can buy, but sells poorly next to the Mazda CX-5 and co. We don't know why. Here we test the Titanium variant.
View ReviewFord Kuga Titanium Road Test Good packaging, excellent dynamics, competitive pricing and a strong national dealer network don't seem to add up to much for Ford's Kuga. It is as good as mid-size SUVs come, but this is not reflected in sales. With before on-roads pricing starting at $27,990 and topping out at $47,190 for the Titanium diesel (and $45,190 for th...
View ReviewEwan Kennedy reviews the 2012 - 2016 Ford Kuga as a used buy. Ford Kuga belongs to an increasingly large class of vehicles that are marketed as SUVs, but are in fact tall hatchbacks with either no off-road ability or, at best, the ability to be driven on dirt tracks and the like. The big appeal of Kuga and others is that they provide added space, are easier...
View ReviewThe Ford Kuga has for some time been a sales underachiever in the bustling medium SUV market — a segment that is now Australia’s second favourite after small cars. Optimists might call it a best-kept secret. Critically lauded from the get-go for the way it drives, the Ford Kuga has nevertheless found only a fraction of the buyers lured to the Mazda CX-5, Nis...
View ReviewAlfa Romeo has been hard at work refining the Giulia. The engineers in Turin have updated the infotainment, interior trim, and driver assists to make its beautiful sports sedan a better rival for its German foes – and they’ve done a pretty good job of it. But the more mundane, mainstream Giulia isn’t what the red-blooded Alfisti want to know about. They want...
