It’s marketed as Fiat’s high-end commercial van solution, but the Scudo is also a fantastic vehicle to drive. Under the hood is a 4-cylinder, 2L turbocharged diesel engine that puts out a great amount of oomph, while commendable in conserving fuel. You’ve also got a six-speed manual transmission that calmly slips through gears, ensuring there is enough transition to help with load carrying duties. Speaking of which, the Scudo comes with 1950kg braked towing capacity, which is a vital step up from Fiat’s other local commercial vehicle, the Doblo. One thing it does share with its partner in crime is the impressive volume it is sized up to transport, with plenty of cargo space available and great ease of access. With a long wheelbase setup it feels composed to drive and it is characterised by convenient manoeuvrability. In addition, for a mid-size van, it’s rather pleasant on the eye thanks to Fiat’s customary styling flair. Sometimes you need to be prepared to step outside your comfort zone and look into something a little off the beaten track. But one thing is for sure, the Scudo ain't no slouch, or lacking in comfort.
